Why 5 hours?

On December 5th 2022 former Secretary of State and architect of the Bill George Eustice MP estimated the Bill would only take 5 hours of parliamentary time to complete its passage in the House of Commons, given it has already passed First Reading, Second Reading, and Committee Stage.

The Government maintains that it is committed to returning this vital Bill, though it has been delayed for more than 15 months

What is the Animal Welfare (Kept Animals) Bill?

The Kept Animals Bill was introduced by the Government in 2021 to improve the lives of animals up and down the country. It fulfils three Conservative Party Manifesto pledges, including to end live animal exports for fattening and slaughter, tackle puppy smuggling, and ban keeping primates as pets. It also addresses livestock worrying, and ensures zoos are doing more to contribute to conservation.
