Henry Smith MP, appointed Deputy Chairman of the APPG on Vegetarianism and Veganism. 6th December

Our Patron Henry Smith has been appointed the Deputy Chairman of the All Parliamentary Group on Vegetarianism and Veganism in the House of Commons. The meeting was attended by MPs, Peers, NGOs and members of the public on the 6th December.

The Speakers included Stephen Pugh, head of food labelling team at Defra until March 2016. He was responsible for the UK’s imput into the European Union’s Regulation on food labelling as well as taking forward other food labelling initiatives.

Dr Kinesch Patel is a consultant Gastroenterologist at Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS and the Royal Brompton NHS Trust. He has a particular interest in nutrition and feeding.

Jeanette Rowley is the founder member of the International Vegan Rights Alliance.

Our Co- Founder asked a question to Stephen Pugh as to whether there is method of production labelling anywhere in the world at the current time and brought attention to the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation’s campaign to achieve the introduction of method of production labelling.

The work of the new APPG is funded by the Vegan Society, the Vegetarian Society and the Vegetarian for Life, with secretariat provided by the NCVO.

The group will meet four times a year to hear representation from academics, the food industry, charities, campaigners and interested individuals.
