The Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation (CAWF) are delighted to welcome Chris Loder MP as a Patron.

The West Dorset MP joins Sir Roger Gale MP, Lady Suzy Gale, Henry Smith MP, Sir David Amess MP, Lord Goldsmith, Theresa Villiers MP, Carrie Symonds, John Flack, Elise Dunweber, Stanley Johnson and Tracey Crouch MP as Patrons of the organisation.

Lorraine Platt, Co-Founder of the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation, commented:

“We are delighted and honoured that Chris is joining us as our Patron.

Chris is leading the hugely important Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill to increase sentencing for animal cruelty which we hope will be law very soon.”

Chris Loder was elected to Parliament in 2019 following a twenty-year railway career. He is a Transport Select Committee member, Chairman of the APPG on SWR and Trustee of the Jurassic Coast Trust. Born in Sherborne, Chris is a fourth generation farmer’s son and was raised just outside the town on his parents’ beef farm.

An animal welfare advocate, Chris introduced his Private Members’ Bill on Animal Welfare (Sentencing) to Parliament in February 2020. The Bill, which had its second reading in October, makes provision for the maximum penalty for certain offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to be increased from six months to up to five years.

We look forward to working with Chris to help advance farm animal welfare .
