June 14 is the day to speak for the millions of farmed animals transported over long distances every year.
The Government has introduced the Kept Animals Bill and will end live exports for slaughter and fattening from England, Wales and Scotland. But we need this practice to end as soon as possible and for countries across the world to follow New Zealand and Britain’s lead and end this vile trade.
Every year, millions of animals suffer as a result of EU live exports and long distance transport.
Farmed animals are transported for days, even weeks on end simply to meet an often-brutal fate in destination countries. This is the reality for millions of animals every year. And even when there are no incidents, these journeys are still tragic and animals are often suffering from thirst and hunger.
Live animals are confined to crowded ships and endure rough seas for days, weeks and even months. They are forced to stand in their own excrement often without adequate water, food, or veterinary care. Many animals are trampled by others, and can suffer dehydration, starvation and illness.
This suffering should end.
